President & CEO, St. Andrews Education Foundation
Nursing is quoted as “a profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so that they may attain, maintain, or gain optimal health and quality of life.” So when a student chooses to take up nursing it is not only a profession he or she prepares for, but a decision to make changes in the lives of many in society. This is a noble profession in which individuals get ample opportunity to serve their community. Every student that enrolls at St. Andrews College of Nursing is directed towards the goal to make a notable change in society. Our mission is not only to help our students refine their intellects, but also to touch their hearts and souls. Examining their values and developing ethical frameworks is what is encouraged here at St. Andrews college of Nursing. A few things that I would like to stress on as I welcome you are that, as Nursing professionals you must be organized and on time from day one, remember your purpose each day and motivate yourself and others around you and most important of all is, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Being a nursing student is difficult but you can do it. Besides being in one of the most difficult periods in your life, it is also one of the most rewarding. I will end this message with only one thing, looking forward towards the goal ahead of you and with purpose in your heart, make this learning experience one that is worthwhile not only for you but to those who will look to you for healthcare assistance.

Nursing has evolved from an unstructured method of caring for the ill to a scientific profession. The result has been movement from the mystical beliefs of primitive times to a “High- Tech, High Touch’ era. Nursing require a delicate balance of promoting clients independence and dependence. Nursing services have become complex. The opportunities for nursing career are limitless. A new professional may choose any number of careers including nursing practice, education, research, management, administration and even entrepreneurship. The main goal of the college is to prepare competent, caring, compassionate and excellent, value-based nurses to meet exciting challenges of nursing profession. I share a verse from the Bible — Mathews 5:16 “ Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven”.
